When Holland’s Farid Yachou took his seat at the WPT Tournament of Champions in Florida over the weekend, he had a grand total of one live tournament win to his credit.

Now he has two. 

The unheralded Yachou – on his first-ever trip to America, no less – defeated fellow European Vlad Darie heads-up to claim the $381,600 prize at the end of the WPT rainbow along with a 2016 Corvette.

“The Corvette is something I have never seen a tournament give away, it’s amazing,” Yachou said.

Yachou won the €3,300 WPT Amsterdam main event back in May last year to earn his TOC seat but, because of a fear of flying, considered not coming to play.

With two scores now on his HendonMob page totalling $606,673, there’s little doubt he’s glad he did.

Mizrachi, Elias, Jaffe Can’t Hold Yachou Back

Looking at the lineup Yachou faced – and his chip stack to begin the day – his accomplishment looks even greater.

Not even the Grinder could psych Yachou out.

Starting second last in chips and staring down four of the toughest American pros in the world in Darren Elias, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, Jonathan Jaffe and Noah Schwartz, Yachou kept his composure and ultimately climbed back for the win.

The only other European at the table was Romanian Darie, who won the WPT Season XIV Vienna main event to earn his ticket to America.

Along with the money and Corvette Yachou also collected a Hublot King Power Titanium watch, an Aurae Solid Gold MasterCard, a custom premium table from BBO Poker Tables, a seat in Tiger’s Poker Night and a round of golf at Shadow Creek with two friends and Matt Savage.

Yachou will have to overcome his fear of flying again next year as he also claimed a seat in the Season XV WPT Tournament of Champions.
