Nevada gaming regulators will now allow casinos in the state to accept pari-mutuel wagers on non-traditional events, such as e-sports and professional sports drafts.

According to a report from the Las Vegas Sun, the Nevada Gaming Commission unanimously approved the new rules at a meeting on June 22. The rules go into effect July 1.

Here’s how Nevada defines a pari-mutuel bet: “Any system whereby wagers […] are placed in a wagering pool […], and in which the participants are wagering with each other.”

A piece of legislation successfully passed last session to give regulators the opportunity to approve the new rules, which was supported by the gaming industry.

Previously, if you were to bet on an event such as the World Series of Poker main event final table, it would have been a nonpari-mutuel bet.

Over the 12 months prior to May 1, Nevada sports books won $223,617,000 from gamblers, a decline of 7.5 percent year-over-year.

There are about 190 sports books in Nevada.
