The 2017 World Series of Poker is now just one week away. The 48th annual WSOP will run from May 30 – July 17, 2017 at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in Las vegas. This year the series will play host to 74 gold-bracelet events, with buy-ins ranging from as little as $333 all the way up to $111,111 for the returning One Drop High Roller.

There are numerous exciting changes for this year’s series, including the recently announced decision to end the November Nine era and play down to a winner during the summer. This year’s WSOP main event champion will be decided on July 22.

Start times for the majority of events at this year’s WSOP will be at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., as they were in 2016. For the huge-field no-limit hold’em events that are scheduled to take place on the weekends there will be 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. starting times.

2017 will see eight brand new events take place at the Rio:

– A $10,000 tag team no-limit hold’em event in which 2-4 person teams put up the buy-in together and can switch out who plays the team’s chips throughout the 3-day event. (May 31)

– A $333 WSOP.com online no-limit hold’em event, that features a $333,333 guaranteed prize pool. (Jun. 3)

– “The Giant,” a $365 no-limit hold’em unlimited re-entry event. Each Friday night at 7 p.m., for five weeks starting on June 9, a starting flight will kick off. Those that survive will return on July 8 to play down to a champion. (Jun. 9,16,23,30, Jul. 7,8)

– “The Marathon,” a $2,620 no-limit hold’em event with 100-minute levels and 26,200 in starting chips. The tournament is scheduled to run over five days. (Jun. 12)

– A $1,000 super turbo bounty no-limit hold’em event, featuring 20-minute levels and $300 bounties. (Jun. 20)

– A $10,000 pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better championship, a tournament spanning three days that begins at 3 p.m. on Jun. 26.

– A $2,500 mixed big-bet event, with NLHE, PLO, 2-7 NL, NL five-card draw, Big O, PLO 8/0B and 2-7 PL triple draw. The tournament will kick off at 3 p.m. on Jun. 30.

– A $3,333 WSOP.com online high roller, that features unlimited re-entry. Gets underway at 3:33 p.m. on Jul. 1.

As far as quality of life changes for players in 2017, the big difference will be that credit cards will be an accepted form of payment at live registration windows. Credit cards can now be used for buy-ins of up to $10,000 this year, a sizable increase from the $1,500 maximum of 2016.

2017 has three online bracelet events on the schedule, including the two new events mentioned above and a $1,000 no-limit hold’em online championship event starting on July 7 at 2 p.m. Online satellites for bracelet events will began on WSOP.com Feb. 1. More than 700 seats were won online in 2016.

The Pavilion, Brasilia, Miranda and Amazon ballrooms remain the primary locales for the estimated 500 poker tables to be used this year. Once again there will be around-the-clock tournament, satellite, Daily Deepstack and cash game action on offer at the Rio.
For those advancing past the first day, restarts for 11 a.m. bracelet events are at 12 noon. Events that start at 3 p.m. will restart at 2 p.m. the next day, with 10 or 10.5 levels being played each day until a champion is crowned.
